In short: we replace sliding glass doors, front entry doors and French doors with impact-rated units built to your openings. As estimates, a 2-panel impact slider runs about $3,000–$6,000 installed, a single entry door $2,500–$5,000, and a pair of French doors $5,000–$8,000.
Impact sliding glass doors
In most Clearwater homes the slider is the biggest single piece of glass in the house, and it usually faces the pool, the lanai or the water, which means it also faces the weather. Older aluminum sliders were rarely built for that. The rollers wear flat, the track fills with sand, and the sill lets water in when rain is driven sideways.
An impact slider uses laminated glass in a heavier frame. The panels weigh more, so quality rollers and a clean, level sill matter. We set the new frame on a sealed sill, check that the panels roll with one hand, and adjust the locks so the door pulls tight to the weatherstrip when closed.

Picking a slider configuration
- Two panels, one fixed and one rolling, for most standard openings up to about 8 feet.
- Three or four panels for wide family-room openings, with two panels rolling past a fixed one.
- Stacking or pocket doors where you want the whole wall to open to the lanai. These need more structural work and are priced on site.
Every door carries a design pressure rating as well as an impact rating. Doors on the Gulf side of Clearwater Beach and Sand Key face higher wind loads than the same door in Countryside, so the rating we specify depends on the opening and the exposure.
Impact front doors and French doors
An impact entry door combines a reinforced slab, impact glass in any lites or sidelights, and a frame anchored to the opening. Fiberglass slabs are the most common choice here because they do not rot or warp in the humidity, and they can be finished smooth or with a woodgrain. Multi-point locks pull the door tight at the top, middle and bottom, which helps it seal and resist pressure.
French doors are a pair of hinged doors, usually opening to a patio. The fixed side is held by bolts into the head and sill, and the active side locks to it. In an impact pair, that center meeting point is where good hardware matters most, so we specify multi-point locking on both leaves.

Sidelights, transoms and garage entry doors
Glass beside or above a door counts as an opening too. If your entry has sidelights or a transom, they are replaced in impact glass at the same time so the whole entry carries one approval. The side door from the garage into the house is often forgotten; we price it with the rest so the opening count is complete for your wind mitigation inspection.
Door prices here are estimates. Size, panel count, glass, hardware and finish change the number. The cost guide has the full table, and your written quote prices each door.
Impact door questions
How much does an impact sliding glass door cost in Clearwater?
As an estimate, a standard 2-panel impact slider runs about $3,000–$6,000 installed. Three- and four-panel doors and openings over about 12 feet run about $5,500–$10,000.
Should my front door swing in or out?
Outswing doors are pushed against their frame by wind pressure, which helps them stay shut in a storm, and they are common on Florida homes. Inswing doors keep the familiar look and work better where a porch or step sits right outside. Both are available impact-rated.
Can you match my existing door color?
Frames come in standard white and bronze, with other colors and woodgrain finishes available on many entry doors. Condo associations often fix the frame color, so we check the rules first.
Will a new slider fit the same opening?
Usually, yes. If the old door was a non-standard size, the new frame is built to the opening and the gap is finished with stucco and trim.
